For the very first time all EV (Electric Vehicle) stakeholders, including utilities, car and equipment manufacturers and key industry and standardization bodies participated in a high-level strategic round table event organized by the IEC and e8. This event took place on January 19, 2011 in Washington DC, USA.

In recent years consumers have benefited from the introduction of countless mobile and wearable IT and consumer electronics (CE) devices and systems. Meanwhile, public and individual means of transportation everywhere are increasingly relying on electric drives and storage for part or all of their propulsion systems. Large stationary energy storage is another area where batteries are playing a growing role. Standardization work by IEC Technical Committee (TC) 21: Secondary cells and batteries, is central to future advances in all energy storage domains.

Standards will make e-scooters safer

New TC to provide standards for personal e-transporters

Walking down a city street, pedestrians have recently been confronted by a new phenomenon. Sailing by on sidewalks or bike lanes, commuters have adopted electric scooters as a popular mode of transportation. Offering a convenient means to travel distances considered too far to walk, they eliminate the need to rely on public transportation or a private vehicle. And given that 46% of car traffic consists of distances of less than 5 kilometres, e-scooters could serve as a solution to the increased traffic congestion in many cities.
