IEC calls on disruptive technology for universal energy access
Announcing the LVDC Conference on Sustainable Electricity Access, 22-23 May 2017, in NairobiEnergy, and especially electricity, is the golden thread that impacts the majority of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and furthermore, the development of every nation and economy. The UN recognizes electricity access as a key pillar for economic development because it helps to reduce poverty and hunger, improves educational opportunities and enables higher quality healthcare.

Joint IEC/IEEE Standard to improve substation operation
Precise time synchronization for grid automation needs a broadly accepted StandardCommunication between equipment and systems for the electric grid is an essential element of power utility automation, and central to the introduction of Smart Grids. The IEC and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) have joined forces to develop IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3:2016, a dual logo International Standard specifying a precision time protocol (PTP) profile for IEC and IEEE Standards applicable to power utility automation.
Updating Smart Grid methodology
Experts from industry, utilities and regional standards organizations from 13 countries attended an IEC international workshopAn international workshop was organized in Paris, France, on 8-9 March by IEC TC (Technical Committee) 8: Systems aspects for electrical energy supply. The purpose was to debate Smart Grid use cases to build up requirements from existing practices.
A giant step for EVs
IEC and e8 organize first international meeting uniting all EV stakeholdersFor the very first time all EV (Electric Vehicle) stakeholders, including utilities, car and equipment manufacturers and key industry and standardization bodies participated in a high-level strategic round table event organized by the IEC and e8. This event took place on January 19, 2011 in Washington DC, USA.
